I see on my 440 the radio is specced as 10w - is it possible to unlock a higher power setting?

I just checked and the upgrade cost from 10 Watts to 16 watts is $4,999.00 MSRP...ouch

10W is plenty of power for most all GA missions.  A perceived lack of transmitting power in the typical GA environment is more likely due to poor cabling, bad connections, RF interference with other equipment, or a faulty antenna due to improper location, damage or defects, or wrong antenna type or model selection. 

None of which would be cured by increasing transmitter power.  If you do need the extra power for certain specialized missions, the extra capability is worth the money.
