Recently departing KHEf I was unable to have the SID displayed on the MAP page. After experimenting on the desktop and IPAD simulators, I was able to duplicate the same situation and then found a fix to have the SID displayed on the MAP. If you entire your entire route and select your entire SID including runway and then Activate the Route the entire SID will be displayed on the MAP. If you entire the entire route, Activate the Route and then put in your SID the SID will not be displayed unless you go Direct to on the first SID point. Though the SID and entire route are in the FMS it will not be displayed on the MAP until Direct to. This also occurs if you have to change runways on the SID after Activating your Route. The new SID does not appear on the MAP until you Direct To the first SID point. With the ability of the 540/440 to display routing I think the SIDs should be displayed as you are insert the SID into your flight plan, irregarless of whether a flight plan has been activated or not. Partituclarly if there is a change in runway after you have left the chocks and are taxing out to the runway. I propose the following language be added to the manual until a permanent fix is addressed: "To have the SID displayed, on the Map, the
flight plan routing including SID must be loaded and activated. If the route is activated before the
desired SID (including the runway) is loaded or if the pilot changes the takeoff runway for the SID, the
SID routing will not be displayed on the map even though it appears in the
active FPL routing. To have the SID displayed in this case the pilot must
initiate a “Direct-Fly-To” command which will allow the SID and routing to be displayed on the Map." Thoughts
