As of today, there are two conventional approaches that use the RF leg and that don't require crew authorization: PAKT ILS Z RWY 11 and KCRQ RNAV X RWY 24. Garmin has announced support for the GTN series of GPS navigators will support RF legs and I have been told that it will also be enabled in the GNS430W/530W series. Garmin did a white paper and field test of flying the RF leg type with pilots of all levels of IFR experience and showed that pilots were capable of flying these leg types and maintain the required tolerances with some basic training using a CDI. A moving map made it easier as did using a flight director. Roll steering autopilot is a big plus. The FAA was opposed to permitting GA pilots from being authorized from flying these types of legs, but if they did approve it, they would require a roll steering autopilot or a FD. It will be interesting to see what the AFMS requires in order to be approved. There should be an updated AC to cover the topic as well, but I have not seen one as of yet.
