Greetings,

I have a couple planes that currently do not have a WAAS receiver that I plan on keeping past 2020.  I would like LPV capability, thus stand-alone ADS-out units are not of interest to me.

I've been kicking around the 400W-series, 440, 650, or 770 question for a while.  I don't have interest in larger screens of the 750/540 or the MFD aspect of the WAAS unit.

For buyers like myself who are installing the first WAAS unit, the Avidyne units just doesn't seem price competitive anywhere near the list prices.

Would anyone care to provide an "up-to-date speculation" on what the 440 price will be?  It seems that the Flightstream 210 solution to the older Garmin GNS 400/500 series would satisfy the more frugal-type buyers, of which I am one.

I sort of wonder who will actually want to buy the 440 other than someone with a 540 who wants a like-brand backup in the panel.

Any thoughts?

Well, I expect street prices will be less than SMRP, and there will be deals --  but suggest you have a really close comparative look at the units, the IFD440 is both a far more functional, and easier to use (better UI) unit. Advantage Avidyne, even if it is at a higher price point.

Well I am buying an IFD 440 to replace my aging Garmin IFR 155 which also gives me a comm capability and one of my aging Collins VHF/VOR units will be taken out.  I will have only one GPS unit on board when its done:  the 440.  It will have to do.  Garmin no longer supports the 155 system with parts, etc..

The alternative for me was a Garmin 650 (or the  King 770).  I want LPV capability.  When I sell the plane the ADS-B package with LPV, WAAS, etc, will be there with the 440.  Would like a 540 or Garmin 750 but cant justify the cost/benefit.

As for the price in the future, I have no idea.  But with the Garmin or Avidyne or Bendix King units there will be competition.
