4 flight hours with my IFD540 and still learning!

One more question, with my GNS430, instructions from Garmin called for shutting down the GPS before shutting down the master.

I don't see such a recommandation in the IFD540 manual. So do I shut it down or leave it on ?

Leaving the IFD540 on is fine.
