I have a dual ifd setup. After picking up my aircraft (finally) I was very happy, except that my dme was no longer working. At first my mechanic thought it was a antenna problem, but now he has found out that my nr2 ifd is messing it up by sending signals even when not required.

According to avidyne support this is a known issue (which I have not seen posted here?) which means that the units need to be send back for a hardware update? This would be the second time (and for one unit the third).

How long is the warranty on my unit? I was in the prebuy group but got it shipped in november. Also .. These kind of hardware errors .. I presume .. Will remain warranty issues .. Even after the units warranty have expired? Clearly these are design faults.

Yes, this is a design fault.

Yes, these kinds of errors will remain warranty issues.

Yes, this is a known issue and described here:  http://www.avidyne.com/publications/ifd540/606-00182-008.pdf" rel="nofollow - http://www.avidyne.com/publications/ifd540/606-00182-008.pdf    which can be accessed from here:  http://www.avidyne.com/support/downloads/ifd-series.asp" rel="nofollow - http://www.avidyne.com/support/downloads/ifd-series.asp

For the small number of folks affected by this, it is solved by the hardware mod that is described in the above mentioned SIL in combination with software release 10.0.3.0 which is due out in the next 1-2 weeks.

You (or I) will need to check with Avidyne Customer Support to determine what the system shows for your current warranty date just so you have it for reference.

WOW!

I'm glad I saw this.  That was one of my squawks after my installation!  I got no remote tuning of the DME from the IFD-540, but my trusty KX-175B tuned the DME like always.  I assumed a wiring issue or a setup issue.  I will share this information with my installer.

So, if they send the unit back, I hope they'll check the transceiver calibration while they're at it.

It will probably be Feb 1 by the time I get the plane back to the avionics shop.  Hopefully 10.0.3.0 will be out by then.

Can you post what serial number series or ship dates are involved? Many of us don't have DME devices so this may not come to awareness in the short term.

It only affects folks who are trying to tune a DME via the IFD540.  It's a two-part fix.  The first part was hardware - I'll have to check the exact dates/serial numbers for anyone who is interested but the hardware mod was released/cut-in in December 2014.     The second part is software - that will be part of Release 10.0.3.0 due out in the next 2ish weeks.

Actually.. this is not correct.

It also messes up my DME, even if it is not supposed to listen to external navsources.
