I've got a question from using the sim so I figured I'd start a new post for usage questions since I'm not sure if it's a limitation from the sim, how I'm using it, or something about the actual software.

I was trying to fly the ILS30R into BFL coming from the east entering at Jupex.  I never noticed the nav frequency auto tune the ILS, when I tuned it on a follow-up approach, I never saw an ID, and although it did switch to GPS->VLOC during the hold, once I passed Jupex inbound on the approach, it switched back to GPS instead of VLOC.

I'm not sure why it didn't auto-tune, but I'm thinking that since that it may be a sim limitation since it is not connected to an actual receiver that it didn't ID the station and wasn't able to transfer to VLOC.  I have Auto-VLOC Tuning and GPS->VLOC capture enabled on the AUX setup user option page.

I was also expecting to see Enable Missed as an LSK on the MAP page once passing the FAF instead of having to switch to the FMS page.

I'm curious to see how Steve and the early adopters have been flying.  I assume you spend most of the time flying on the MAP page and only go to the FMS page to change the flight plan.    That is why I was expecting that although I can go to the FMS page to enable the missed, I figured I'd get an LSK on the MAP page so I wouldn't have to switch back and forth.

I'll load the sim on my laptop and try to recreate this weekend.

I do fly that type of scenario all the time in-flight with the real gear and it works much differently from what you report.   Auto tuning works fine and if the capture criteria as defined in the pilot guide in Section 5 are met, then the auto switch to VLOC occurs as expected.

As for the Enable Missed LSK, we don't support that on the Map page as you note.   We do think it would be a major improvement to the system overall to have that LSK available on all pages during an approach and that is a candidate for future releases - the problem is what are we willing to give up to create that capability, hence the reason for the deferral.

I do fly predominantly on the Map page and I personally only use the FMS pages to create/alter a flight plan or enable the missed as you suggest.   I make extensive use of the function keys along the right side of the unit (FREQ, PROC) to facilitate standard operations when flying approaches.

Thanks ahead of time for looking into this and I'll review section 5 to see if I can find what I am missing.

Just another data point
I had the exact same concerns and was going to post, but you beat me to it !

The simulator does not auto tune as far as I can tell.
And not having the "activate missed" on the map page is definitely something that should be changed.

Also I managed to crash the simulator with a null pointed dereference.
Are you interested in bug reports?
Is this actually a simulated unit running production code?

Sure, please send all bug reports to my email at sjacobson@avidyne.com

Thanks.

Not sure what a null pointed dereference is but I was playing around loading the KDAL departure Tom Harper did the youtube video on and yes it can be done very easily and quickly. The bad news is the sim always crashes (20+ times) before flying all legs in the flight plan so that part sucks. One problem may be the datalink weather not connecting and remaining in the alert box all the time (the WSI live weather box says the client is connecting to www.007guard.com and shows the feed connected) and the fact that I speed up the flight time a little but stay below the "dead reckoning" message speed. Also have the same issues as previously mentioned, I'm sure improvements are coming. That being said, I really, really really like what I have seen so far!!!

GDC25,

By "always crashes" do you mean it simulates hitting the ground (that's what mine did when I ran the demo) or do you mean the software app crashes (mine did not have any issues)?

Poor choice of words on my part, sorry. The program/app locks down/freezes, basically stops working completely although the screen remains up with no error messages of any kind.

Hi Klaus,

That sounds frustrating.  My only immediate thought is to ask if your computer meets the specifications defined in the ReadMe file that was part of the download?

Most of us are at Sun-n-Fun for the next week so we're pretty occupied with those activities which I fear may limit our support this coming week.

Won't run on my Windoze machine either, which meets specs (dual core/Vista).

Wants an updated QL.  Don't know how to do that.

Looks like the weather enabled version of SIM does not save the data block setups entered.

The original large version would save them.  Am I missing something?

I'm seeing the same thing, the custom set blocks are not remembered. That said, I can' t be certain they were before.

FWIW, the blocks shown are different from the original sim (Int'l) version.

Hhmm.  Will check some of these issues out and report back in the next day or so as I wade through them.
