Hi,

I thought I saw an exchange on this, but can't find it so here is the question (perhaps again).

I have heard that the new Garmin GTN series doesn't have a power on/off switch like the GNSx30, and power is controlled by the avionics bus on/off switch.

Since the IFD series is plug compatible with the GNS, is it correct that there is also a power on/off switch on the IFD540/440? This is much preferable to avionics bus control, because in the case of alternator failure there is a need to reduce power drain and still keep minimal avionics for navigation & comms.... e.g. only one IFD in a 540/440 config.

Yes, the IFD540/440 has a power on/off switch.  Push and hold the top left knob and the unit will countdown to a power off situation.  Press again to power back on.
