While attempting to change settings on my (brand new) 540, the screen went completely blank.  Would not respond to any input, button pushes, etc.  Had to restart it to get anything back on the screen. Happened several times.  I was initially attempting to change the lighting schedule.  Thought maybe it had gone dark via the photocell, so I set it to manual lighting, tried again, same thing happened.  I eventually tried other settings, and was finally able to get back to and set the lighting schedule.

What might have caused this?  A malfunction, or something not set correctly?

So the IFD was readable, then you went to maintenance mode to adjust the lighting configuration.  You did something there and then the screen went dark?  What else did you try that finally caused the brightness to increase?

When I went to Settings, lighting, the screen went dark before I had a chance to do anything.  I've downloaded logs and sent them to Avidyne, waiting to hear from them.

I'm guessing that the screen went dark, but not black.  If you turned the lights off you would probably see the *very* dim presentation.  Do you have a dimming bus connected?

No, dimming bus not connected.  It was on photocell; I changed it to manual, set on bright, in case there was a problem with the photocell.  Did the same thing again.

Maintenance mode has a separate input setting from flight mode.  Flight mode has Photocell, Dimming Bus, and Manual.  Maintenance mode has only Photocell and Dimming Bus.  Changing the flight mode setting will not affect the maintenance mode setting.

If the maintenance mode setting is on dim bus and there's nothing connected to that input, it should go to full bright.  If it's on photocell, it should obviously react to the photocell.  If you can recreate the problem, I'd suggest that you darken the environment so you can see whether the screen is really black or just way dim.  Assuming it's just way dim, then set the maintenance mode input to photocell then brighten the environment.

Changes to the lightning, both in flight mode and maintenance mode, are included in 10.3.2.2 release.  Don't have a date for that yet.
