Hello,
I have submitted a trouble ticket with Avidyne Support, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and what the remedy was. Sometimes, during powerup of my IFD 550, all I get are vertical lines on the display and it will not boot up. My only recourse is to pull the circuit breaker to secure power and attempt a new restart. Sometimes it boots up correctly after doing this, sometimes it takes several attempts. I am not having any luck uploading a picture, but I will try to get one uploaded to show what I am trying to describe.

I had exactly the same problem recently where the 550 wouldn’t boot. It was out of warranty and cost a small fortune to ship from Australia to the US and have the aircraft out of service for 7 weeks. Apparently a bad internal CF card was the likely problem.

Wish there was a cost, and time, effective way of getting this stuff fixed. It’s the second big 550 challenge I’ve had in the last 18 months where the first resulted in a 3 month hole in the panel :-/

I guess outside the US you just don’t have anything like the same level of support.

To follow up. I downloaded my logs and sent them to Avidyne. Avidyne support believes that I have a loose video card connection. Therefore, I had to pull my IFD550, drive it to my Avionics shop, and have them send it in to Avidyne to inspect/repair/test. I will follow up after I receive it back, hopefully with the problem fixed.
