When I go to dial in a frequency the IFD440 will pop up a menu offering me potential frequencies.

Can I either disable this feature or have the menu auto-hide after a few seconds?

Jeff,  I have the 540 but I believe it behaves the same.  Are you dialing in your frequency with the knobs on the left to change freq or are you hitting the freq button. Hitting that button does pull up  a list of suggested frequencies.  If you want to avoid the menu and just dial in the new freq, either use the wireless keypad (if you have one) or enter the frequency with the knobs or touch screen by touching the frequency box

I'm turning the knob, basically ATC gives me a new frequency and I'm tuning it in at the same time.  as soon as I start twisting the bottom left knob the frequency suggestion menu comes up and it never self clears.

Understood.  I don't see that behavior on the 540

There's no way to disable the feature or have it time out.  You can manually dismiss it using various methods, including pressing the CLR key. It sure seems like it should dismiss when you swap in a new frequency.  I'll have to check with the radio guys to see why the UI was designed that way.  If nothing else, I would think we could add a timeout as you suggested.

Other issue, I don't know why a programmer thought that white lettering on a gray background is an easy combination to read, a little more contrast would be desirable!

On one of the Feature Request emails here or on FB, I made the suggestion that this should clear itself when you hit the Swap button.  This is for sure one of my bigger complaints on the 440.
