Could someone explain me please where the 9900BX is placed in the TAS600 line? Is it equivalent to the TAS615, what is the difference in capabilities? Can it be upgraded to one of the TAS600 series units? I understand from another post that it is also upgradeable to ADS-B? Is there a difference how it displays on the EX600 and integrates with the other hazard avoidance boxes?
Thanks
Robert

The 9900BX is equivalent to the TAS620.  The 9900BX was marketed by Ryan International, which merged with Avidyne in 2005.  After the merger the 9900BX product was renamed the TAS620 at the same time Avidyne unveiled the TAS600 and TAS610.  The year, Avidyne released the TAS605 and TAS615 products to respond to customers' needs and requests.

Like the TAS620, the 9900BX is upgradeable to ADS-B.  Sign up to lock in a $2,000 upgrade price:  http://www.avidyne.com/landing/tas600-adsb.asp - http://www.avidyne.com/landing/tas600-adsb.asp .

Thank you, that is excellent news. Do you have already a date when the ADS-B upgrades start? Naturally I have already signed up.

ADS-B upgrades expected sometime next year.  We haven't released a more detailed schedule yet.

9900BX and TAS 620 the same correct. Then I assume the 9900BX can take altitude and heading via ARINC 429, correct? But the 9900BX processor I have is a dash 4, which means it cannot take altitude that way. So I'm confused, is a 9900BX truly a TAS 620 and will it take altitude via ARINC 429 regardless of the part number?

The 9900BX and TAS620 are essentially the same; however, the 9900BX is an earlier model designation for the design.  Depending upon the 9900BX revision it may not provide support for all of the current TAS620 features.  The 9900BX can be upgraded to the current revision.  Doing so will enable the 9900BX to provide all of the current TAS620 features.

Well that seems silly.  Hey folks the TCAD 9900BX is the TAS 620 but its really not.  Its like saying hey this McDonald's Big Mac is really a Burger King Whopper unless you bought it down the street then really its a Wendy's cheeseburger.  Then if I want it to accept altitude information its $1,200 to upgrade it.  I guess I'll have to stick to the old outdated gillham code interface.  :-)
