Not sure if anyone else out there is running a EDM 960 along with the IFD 540. Communication is both ways, the EDM is supposed to send Fuel data to the IFD and the IFD is supposed to send GPS data to the IFD. I have found that this communication is intermittent. Sometimes the data is displayed on both units, sometimes one unit sometimes there is no communication at all and neither the IFD nor the EDM displays the info it is supposed to receive from the other unit.

By chance is anyone else running an EDM system and can provide feedback of what they are experiencing when it comes to communication between these two devices??

Thanks

Okay, I'm interested. What does the EDM do with the GPS data?

It displays GPS data like ground speed and used that and distance remaining data to calculate and display fuel to destination , reserves at destination etc.

I have that set up. Both 540 & 960 fuel data seems to work most of the time. Only issue is 960 looses GPS data very occasional, so don't know if 540 problem or loose connection which seems to happen with the 960.

Thanks Craig. That is mostly what I had been experiencing until lately. Intermittent outages on the EDM. Last couple flights the EDM hasn't been able to tell me fuel remaining at destination.

Well, no systemic issue -- EDM 730/830s work just fine with the 540. Most likely reason is that the parameters are not set up correctly.

I have the GPS-C setting on the EDM set to "7" = 430 "to destination".

The EDM is connected to 232 channel #1 on the 540, and that is set to: I = Shadin-fadec; O = Aviation on page 2/10.

If you are not comfortable checking those, get back to your shop. That should have been proven working before the plane was handed over.

Is this still the case for you?   We definitely work with the EDM units so I suspect it was a configuration issue with your airplane.

Yes this is.  My avionics shop has been trying to resolve this issue with your tech support but has been getting no response to their emails. I sent Orest's response to my earlier post to them and am a going to follow up on Monday to see if that will solve the issue.
