I have recently updated my IFD4440 to the latest 10.3 version software.  The aircraft is new to me as of 1-1-25.  The only way that I can get traffic/weather over to the ipad running Foreflight is to connect to the GTX345 transponder (hard-wired to the IFD440) via Bluetooth.  All other WIFI functions for flight plan transfer, IFD 100, etc work great.  I also have traffic to the IFD100 app with the current setup. I have noticed that in my setup menu I don't have the option for ADSB over WIFI.  Is there any reason that I shouldn't be able to utilize WIFI instead of Bluetooth?  Since I don't have this option in the setup menu how can I turn this feature on?  I have 2 Garmin G5's, GFC50, IFD 440 and Garmin GTX 345 transponder.  I would really like to not have to Bluetooth the ADS-B from the GTX-345 to the ipad.

The “ADS-B over WiFi” feature you mention is for connecting the panel mounted IFD to a Stratus 3 or equivalent, versus having ADS-B In features hard wired to your GTX 345 transponder as you do.

Generally speaking, being hard wired to the transponder is the best way for the IFD to receive and display traffic and weather, which it sounds like you must be doing. If you are seeing traffic and weather on the IFD100 app, that means the WiFi is being used to send that data to the iPad from the IFD. If you are not seeing it on the IFD, could you be at a level of detail for LAND or MAP that doesn’t show it?

If you are able to send and receive flight plans from ForeFlight to the IFD, it means you have the proper WiFi configuration set up.

If you are getting “Connext” data in ForeFlight, it’s coming directly from the 345. If you don’t want that, simply remove the Bluetooth association between your iPad and the GTX.

I have the same basic setup, and generally don’t worry about whether ForeFlight is talking to the 345 via Bluetooth or the IFD via WiFi or both; it all just works. You can look at the devices page in ForeFlight to see what you are connected to.

I am about to install a GTX345 in my plane and have an IFD540. I also use foreflight and was wondering how to configure the system so that the ipad will get traffic and weather data and also be able to send and receive flight plans. In my current setup I have a stratus 3 that acts as the hub, broadcasting the wifi signal. With this revised setup is it the IFD540 or the GTX345 that is acting as the hub? Sounds like you are saying it is the 345. Also how do you configure this? I'm okay with bluetooth to the ipad, as long as it allows for the functionality.

When you install the GTX 345, you’ll want to connect it directly to your IFD 540. This will allow ADS-B traffic and weather data to be seen on the 540 without needing additional network connectivity. There are two different ways to hook this up physically; the installation guide says you should connect the units with both ARINC 429 for Traffic, and RS422 out to RS232 in for weather.

Once the ADS-B data from the 345 is displayed on the IFD, you can stop using the Stratus 3 and its network, and receive traffic and data on an iPad from either the 345 via Bluetooth, or via WiFi using the IFD as the WiFi hub. You’ll use WiFi to send and receive flight plans from the tablet to the IFD.
