Under the Setup tab, User Options, the FLTA setting is not retained across power off / power on.

The terrain alarms constantly go off during VFR flight, so I have tried to turn them off (both FLTA and TA). The TA setting stays off but the FLTA setting always returns to ON at the next power on.

Is this a bug or a "feature"?

This is a 'feature' and has been discuussed extensively on an earlier thread.

I for one support the current setting, ie being reset to "On" across power cycles, as FLTA is a very significant safety feature.

Then we disagree on this one.

I have enough to do with every startup without having to remember to go to the user setup to turn this off. It will become doubly onerous once my 440 arrives and I need to change the setting on both boxes every time I go flying. That is an unnecessary additional workload created by the IFD.

I want it to stay off when I turn it off.

If there are enough people on both sides of the fence on this, then there should be an additional option such as "Retain FLTA settings across power cycle" YES/NO.

Okay, we'll create a setting in a future release to allow for retention of the setting.  We'll put this in the next non-bug fix release.

Vince,
The IFD 440 doesn't have TAWS so you won't have an issue there. Perhaps two 440's would have been a better combination for you.

Apologies, ignore my previous as I now realise the IFD440 does have FLTA
