Unlike the Garmin 430/530 series ...when the IFD is integrated with TIS-A traffic (from a 330 transponder for example), the IFD will NOT display "Traffic Not Avail" when outside of TIS-A coverage areas. This means that you will not know whether an absence of traffic on your IFD means there is none actually there or if you are just not receiving traffic info. Major oversight in regards to TIS-A compatibility.

I think it was stated in another post the IFD540 does NOT support TIS-A traffic, but instead is just displaying the A429 traffic data from the GTX-330.
This may explain the lack of "Traffic not Avail." |

Actually Avidyne just told me they agree it should say "Traffic Not Avail" when applicable and they are pushing to make the change
