Jim, I'd say we are doing a pretty good job so far. You're right, even multi-billion dollar corporations like Apple, Samsung and Google have had issues with their products in the initial release stages. Our technical support team is always in communication with the engineers so we can track trends.

Ken -
1.) some of us actually use our airplanes to go somewhere and its for more than just burning holes in the sky on a VFR day. I do, as well. I use my comanche for business, too. (it is slightly less fast...) :) 2.) Given the fact that Garmin introduced WAAS in 2005, approximately 5 years after Clinton ordered the elimination of selective availability, I would expect "bugs" and unknowns that caused a firmware upgrade. I'm pretty certain in this situation that Avidyne isn't introducing anything new, they are just trying to photocopy and "improve" whats already been done (which, btw, I was hopeful they would improve. I didn't realize I would have to accept hardware/software interoperability failures). therefore, I'm not certain your point about or intention for reference. My point was, that Garmin's plan didn't play out quite like they planned and promised, either. I like them, they make good, reliable stuff (and charge for it...). I think that they made a mistake with no plug and play replacement, and all touch screen interface. 3.) I'm okay with bugs that aren't critical. that said, the experience that some of us have had with the product would be easily classified as critical given it would be the cause of AOG and scrubbing a trip. Even worse, imagine shooting an LPV, OVC002 and 1.25 miles visibility and you get a GPS Integrity lost error or GPS fault dead reckoning; I think the outcome could be disastrous. Agree. Avidyne needs to fix and diagnose this post haste. 4.) Given my experience, I would love to go get two 750's wired in. UNFORTUNATELY, I've already sunk money into two IFD540's that are nothing short of unpredictable and now I'm in limbo waiting for either better software or a determination that I'm not stuck with buggy software/hardware. Well, hope that your limbo is short-lived. hope this helps with a different perspective. It does. I was feeling curmudgeonly when I sent this post. I apologize. However, I think that the avidyne bashing was a bit premature and over the top. Ken |

Hey I learned a new word today so I am very (1/curmudgeonly) today! Kidding aside I use my bird for business and have to be able to count on getting to my destination which very frequently requires an approach to get in. I installed one 540 via plug-n-play and sure enough everything pretty much worked as advertised on the flight home. I flew several different approach types and was pleased and impressed. The next flight was a VFR round trip (3 hours each way) where I experienced multiple GPS integrity resets on both legs. Got home, pulled out the 540 and slid the 530 back in. Important points taken from the experience:
1. The 540 is a great unit, love the functionality and features. 2. Plug-n-play is pretty darn accurate at least for my airplane. 3. GPS issue is critical for me and I will wait for a definitive fix. My boxes already have to go back for hardware updates so I want to send them back once. So I also hope the limbo is short lived. I am ready to fly with Avidyne products I have complete confidence in at OVC002 and 1.25 miles visibility and send these 530's down the road.
