My shop VIP avionics in Hartford, CT, put my 540 in a travel docking station for me to use at home . They loaned me an antenna to conect and I was able to practice at home. I believe it helped me to learn and transition to GPS. Hope this helped you.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I will reach out to Lone Star Aviation today.  I am upgrading from steam gauges and a 496, so the Lone Star option will work best for me.  I will re-post with my experience.

Thank you

Bennett

+1

Better to run through all the great features without your goodies connected...fuel flow...traffic...etc.

A bench stand will in turn isolate the 540 from the rest of the panel.

What about just borrowing a GPU, say from your installing shop, and get familiar with it on the ground, once it is installed. And, rest assured, it won't take that long.

There is a company called Lone Star Aviation that supplies docking stations for a variety of equipment, including Garmin GNS 430 and GNS 530. Since the IFD540 is plug-compatible with the G530, this is the box you want. The price listed on-line is $269.95.

I am having an IFD540 installed in my Archer II and want to spend time at my bench at home learning the functionality of the 540.  I have downloaded both the PC and iPad version of the emulator, but each of them have limitations that make it impossible to simulate functionality.

Does anyone know of a bench stand available for the IFD540?  Many of the Youtube videos show a live unit, so there must a solution.

Thanks, in advance, for all suggestions.
