Two questions about the IFD540 that I could not find answers to in the forums:

1. Is it possible to orient the map to North Up? I was playing with the iPad simulator and it seems like the only choices are track up and heading up.

2. Let's say you are on an airway heading to an intersection connecting you to a different airway. For example, in the LA area you are on V459 heading south to DARTS and your clearance is V459 DARTS V186 ADAMM. When you are a few miles north of DARTS the controller says "turn left heading 120, intercept V186". How do you make V186 the active leg so that when you intercept the 540 commands the A/P to turn onto the airway? In the Garmin 430, you go to the flight plan page, highlight ADAMM (because V186 is defined as DARTS > ADAMM, not V186) and then press Direct To twice. It then asks you if you want to activate that leg and you just hit enter. How does that work on the Avidyne 540?

1.  Yes.  Did you press the bottom right knob?  When on the Map page, the knob is labeled as "Zoom / View".  The View part is labeling the push action of the knob.

2.  There are several close variants of the answer here.  I've taken a bunch of iPad snap shots of the scenario if you want me to email them but, some of the techniques available here are.....

    a.  Since in your listed scenario, you already have a flight plan loaded (all the intersections come along for free) so you have ..... V459 KIMMO  BERRI DARTS V186 PURMS ELMOO ITSME PIRRO ADAM ....  From the FMS-FPL tab, you can touch (or scroll using right-hand knob) any downstream leg you want and you'll see an "Activate Leg" line select key pop up on the left side of the display. Press that LSK to skip ahead on the route as desired.  You can do this with the split Map-FPL view so you can visually see what leg you want on the map at the same time.

    b.  You could use your 430-esque method too of pressing the "Direct-To" function key on the right side of the bezel.  That will pre-populate a logical waypoint along your route in the Direct To dialog box.  If that's not the downstream waypoint you want, twist the bottom right to whip through the flight plan all the while watching it populate the Direct To dialog box.  When you have one you like in that Direct To dialog box, you can touch the glass in the prompted spot or press Enter like your 430.

We need that heading mode! Hopefully it is back in the next drop.
