Is the webinar archived, and available for viewing?

The link for the webinar is below but it took a couple of sign up pages to get to it.  First sign up for the webinar (even though it is in the past).  It will take you to the register page where you can then view it.

Also, a few weeks ago Dan Schwinn appeared on Social Flight.  It was also very interesting. The link to that on You Tube is:

Is there actually any date as to when 10.3 will be released.  1 month?  3?  Next year?

That information is never given anymore. There’s been too many times when people were disappointed if circumstances prevented meeting a date.

What you mean release dates get missed? Oh the horrors. :)

Seriously I was listening to one of the Avidyne Webinar's that was titled "Upgrading your GPS to IFD" and they did say that 10.3 is expected by the end of the year.  Not sure when that Webinar was first recorded.

Dan Schwinn alluded to the end of the year for 10.3, in a recent SocialFlight interview.

He also mentioned that staff have a script to use, when asked about target dates.

Hey Steve - now that December is upon us, just curious if you have any update on 10.3?  I know in the webinar several months back they (you or Dan) mentioned by the end of the year.  Just seeing if you're still on track to meet that target.

Thanks

Wish I had better news, but I wouldn't look for it by year end.

Also, it definitely didn't make it before year-end 2019 as was previously indirectly suggested at the beginning of 2019 ... maybe by 2022?  ;-)

We're considering purchasing a few IFD units in the next few months to go along with Dynon SkyView HDX systems, and it would of course be ideal if 10.3 is out by whenever the purchase happens.

If it's not though, this last point raises some questions-

This paid hardware upgrade - is this just an enablement code, or is this an actual hardware upgrade?  What is involved?  Do currently shipping units (pre 10.3) already incorporate the upgraded hardware?

Thanks,

The improvement is to allow support for high-res terrain.  Current res terrain (which is pretty good) will still be supported.

This would be an actual hardware upgrade to increase memory size.  IFDs are not being shipped with the larger memory.

OK - so when 10.3 is released, will units start shipping with the larger memory, or will the high res terrain become a paid hardware option even on new units?

When you say larger memory....is this soldered to a board, or an SD card that is field replaceable?

Thanks,
Colin

Hi Steve, can you post a picture of an IFD540 with standard res terrain side by side with the high res terrain?

I'm interested in seeing the differences.

It would still be a paid option even on new units.  It's neither soldered nor field replaceable - the unit would have to be returned for the upgrade.

Ah, OK.  So there will be 2x hardware variants of each model then, one supporting high res terrain, one not?

I assume this is storage memory only, and the upgrade doesn't affect anything else at all, improve performance in any other areas?

For coverage for the high res terrain...  What geographic areas are covered?

Thanks,
Colin

Any chance of a hint about the price of the paid option before the actual 10.3 release, just for budgeting purposes? Same for both 540/440?

Pricing isn't available yet.  I doubt there would be a difference for 400 vs 500 series.

Steve,  Is it possible through software upgrade to allow
fuel flow to be one of the display options?

fuel flow is already available as a data block. That is, assuming that you are getting fuel flow data to the IFD from your engine monitor or fuel totalizer.

Yes Paul, thanks I see it there now.  I wanted it on the top row of options, but
will have to bump something from the siderow instead.
