uAvionix ADS-B input to IFD?

I have a uAvionix echoUAT in my RV-7A and an IFD440. Are the uAvionix ADS-B transceivers (skyBeacon, tailBeacon and echoUAT) supported as input to the IFD series? If not, are there plans to add support for the uAvionix products?

No, the IFD series is limited as to it's ADSB in function to a select few devices. I also hope for some future options in that area.

It looks like all the certified uAvionics products are ADS-B Out only. They do have an In product, but it’s for experimental aircraft only.

The uAvionix Echo used by many experimental planes has ADS-B out and in. It will send the "in" data by wifi or RS-232 output. Since the FAA has absolutely no requirement for ADS-B in, there would seem to be no reason that an IFD 440 or 540 would not accept this data and show weather and planes close by. The same info could then go to FF or FlyQ via the IFD 440 wifi.

Although the FAA doesn't have specific requirements for ADS-B in, I suspect that you can't just hook up uncertified devices to certified devices.  Otherwise, what would prevent me from hooking up a home-brewed stratux (with the required connection) to an IFD box?

How about hooking up Stratux or my Echo to the IFD100 app which is not certified? Much bigger screen view of weather and traffic. The current Avidyne ADS-B in solution is only UAT in and by all reports doesn't show anywhere near as much traffic as either the Stratux or the Echo.

Yes, the latest version has a setting called "WIFI ADS-B Support".  Anything that broadcasts Capstone over port 4000 should work.  We tried it with Stratus 3, so I suspect Stratux would work OK.  I'm not sure what the uAvionix sends, but it may work as well.

Give it a try and post back with your results!

I talked to David at uAvionix. He says the Echo broadcasts GDL 90 format as does the Stratus 3. Will the IFD 100 communicate simultaneously via WiFi with the IFD 440 (flight plan and radio changes) and with the Stratus 3? I saw the "WIFI ADS-B Support" choice for the IFD 100 but couldn't find anything online or in the manual about how I might implement it. Does that allow me to connect to 2 different wifi inputs simultaneously?

Enable the "WIFI ADS-B Support" setting on the iPad.

The Stratus, IFD, and IFD100 iPad all have to be on the same network.  So, if you're using the Stratus then you'll have to create/select a corresponding remote network configuration on the IFD and then connect both the IFD and the IFD100 iPad to the Stratus network.

I'm not sure whether the uAvionix Echo has the capability to be the WiFi access point.  If it does, you would use the same process to connect as for the Stratus.

I tried setting the IFD 100 to "WIFI ADS-B Support". When I connected the 400 and the 100 app, traffic began to show up on the 100 app from the uAvionix Echo. FlyQ shows it is connected to the 440 and since FlyQ receives traffic from the Echo, does the 440/FlyQ connection for flight plans also allow the 100 app to receive traffic? Don't really understand how all this could work. But if it does, I'll be happy.

To get WiFi ADS-B weather and traffic, the IFD100 listens to a specific port on the network to which it is connected.  I'm not sure how you have everything connected, but if it works, then it sounds like you're good to go.
