I'm getting the METAR and other type weather on my IFD440 but is there a way to get radar from my setup on my iPad so I don't have to carry a Stratus every time?

Are you implying that you want to use a cellular data connection to get weather information during flight?
Others can speak to whether the IFD software could "break the fourth wall" to access data that way, but I'll say that my experience is that cell data is not reliable during flight. (It's also against FCC regs, though that's quite unlikely to be enforced.) If you can get data in flight (and aren't concerned about the FCC pulling alongside in a helicopter with flashing red and blue lights), you could always just swap over to your favorite weather radar app.

I believe with 10.2.3.1, if you have an Avidyne compatible ADS-B in you should be able to ADS-B weather from the IFD 440 via Wifi to the iPad using Foreflight and IFD 100
https://www.foreflight.com/support/support-center/category/about-foreflight-mobile/218282278
What capabilities does the Avidyne 440 or 540/550 system provide ForeFlight? The following table delineates capabilities that are available in ForeFlight Mobile for the Avidyne IFD440/540/550 avionics systems.
* 2-way flight plan transfer is supported between ForeFlight Mobile 9.1 and later and an Avidyne IFD with firmware 10.2 or later. ** ADS-B Weather and Traffic are supported when using an Avidyne-compatible ADS-B receiver correctly connected to the Avidyne IFD and with Avidyne IFD firmware 10.2.3.1 or later. In ForeFlight Mobile this will show us as two separate device tiles on More > Devices page: "IFD" and "ADS-B". Last Updated: Apr 10, 2019 |
