The training value of the IFD Trainer app would go up a lot if I could use it with Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX or XPlane.

It seems like this wouldn't be a huge amount of engineering work, since the 10.2.3.1 Trainer already has an option for external control input. ("Manual" option under "Flight Control".)

What would be required to make this happen? Could an NEMA input option be added to the Flight Control menu? Is there any contribution the open source community could make, to reduce the workload for Avidyne engineers?

For reference, I use an EFB called AVare with FSX via a utility called XConn. XConn is available at https://www.pocketfms.com/2-DownUtility.asp

It's been a while since we looked at that.  No promises, but I'll raise the issue again.

XPlane! And also integrate it into the program so they can put it on their sim panels.

I use FlyThisSim to help with IFR currency. This is a BATD built on top of XPlane. I hate using the Garmin GNS430/530 which is the only option for the variations on the Cessna 182 (and other planes) they provide.

My CFII who has an Elite sim rig was telling me that Elite will have an IFD540 module in their next software release.  I'd be shocked if that were true, but I'd be even more thrilled if it were to happen.

(His Elite rig is currently certified for IFR currency training with a CFII present, but under the new relaxed regs the next software release is supposed to be certified for IFR currency training even without a CFII.  I've used it a lot in the past, and plan to use it even more going forward, and I'd love to be able to train with a simulation of the IFD I fly with.)

What's the thinking on this, Steve? Anyone at OSH whose ear I should bend? :-)

No traction on that yet.  I'm at OSH and I'll be glad to listen again, but sorry I don't have better news at this point.
