Avidyne has said they will continue to support their Navworx OEM'd Skytrak units, but any new ADS-B out product shipping now will the Rangr units.

The Freeflight units are a bit of a step up in function.

Orest,

Do you know if this means I can order one (or have my shop order one) from any avionics supplier (i.e. Gulfcoast, Chief, etc)?

Does anybody know of a dual-band unit that can be attached to the IFD-540 to provide ADS-B In? I have a SkyTrax, but would prefer to move to something with dual band reception. Dual band makes a difference to me. I have had circumstances where the dual band unit was showing traffic not being rebroadcast on the UAT band. I also sometimes fly over Mexico, where ADS-B is not available and direct reception of other planes is helpful.

For now, I'm using a portable unit (Stratux), but its data won't display on the IFD, and it is not built to aviation standards. It mostly works but is not 100% reliable.

I believe the GTX345 is dual band in, 1090 out.

Thanks, but I already have 1090ES ADS-B Out through an Avidyne AXP-340. I was looking for a dual-band In solution to replace the orphaned SkyTrax/MLB-100.

Well, they are apparently just off-the-shelf units, I believe that Avidyne is drop shipping them. I suppose, but I'd double check. Their pricing is usually aggressive if you are buying other stuff, but if you just wanted the Rangr, I suppose you might get a better price elsewhere.

We have the AXP-340 also (which is made by Trig Avionics), but  10.2.1 eliminated the aural traffic warnings on the IFD which was the main reason for upgrading. We are considering replacing the AXP 340 and Skytrax 100 with GTX-345, as it will provide aural warning directly to the audio panel, in addition to better support from Garmin. In addition, 3rd party ADS-B in units may face the same fate as Navworx.

Any company can crump, but Navworx was a rather unique and unusual case. Not sure that their demise can readily be applied as a broad brush to the rest of industry.

I was unaware that 10.2.1 eliminated the aural traffic warnings -- has Avidyne stated a reason for this?

It was a paperwork/certification thing. It was explained somewhere here on these pages. Rather a nuisance for those affected.
