I thought I'd check into the feasibility of installing an Enhanced Visibility System (EVS) FLIR type camera on my airplane to connect to an IFD540/550 with 10.2.  If found that Astronics Max Viz has several certified camera systems that look to work with the IFDs, with one the OEM option on a Cirrus.

Astronics Max-Viz has several models running from 9k to 25k for the camera.  Here is a link to the website:

www.max-viz.com

Some things I learned:

 - They feel the 320x240 resolution is sufficient for a smaller screen like the IFD540
 - It may not work well through fog or heavy clouds
 - They have heaters to handle icing conditions
 - The more expensive one has a zoom option (using a manual on/off switch
 - The model 600 blends a camera with a light detector so it can show runway lights

We have quite a bit of experience using the MaxViz camera.  It works great but as you note, it's not $ cheap.

We will support any RS-170 protocol camera.  That does include a bunch of FLIR cameras as well as a lot of inexpensive color "lipstick" cameras that use NTSC output format.
