    Posted: 13 Jul 2018 at 5:06am
Hello I´m new in forum and need help with connecting IFD 100 to IFD 550. I have 2 IFD, 550 and 540 both brandnew in N53517. Avionicshop ASG was not able to fix my problems and leave me alone with them.
IFD 100 does not show any IFD device to connect with. My settings:
- Wifi sybol on right headqarter is visible, in white
- Settings in Setup are on
- Datas on IFD 100 and 550 are actual (Jeppeson)
- IFD Type is correct on IPad,
- Chassis ist correct too
- Ipad # is tryed out, with 1 or 2, nothing happens
- nothing happens when "IFD_WIFI" is Networkname
- Avionic shop tells me they where able to connect during installation but I did not see so
- with other devices no IFD is visible
- 10.2.1.0 is installed
- Local is set
- no change outside the hangar..

What could be the missing item?
Thank You for help

Bernd,

Just to clarify, the iPad is connected to the IFD WiFi network, right?

The neterwork name was changed from the default. Perhaps the password was changed too.

If the iPad is connected to the WiFi network, then perhaps the problem is related to the one I had to get the IFD-100 working in my system.

I had an issue in my setup where the Chassis ID of my single IFD-540 was set to 2. The IFD-100 required that there be at least one box with the Chassis ID set to 1. Make sure that is the case in your installation. Maybe the 540 needs to be 1 and the 440 needs to be 2. The Chassis ID is set by a switch on the side of the box. It is simple to slide the IFD out and look at the switch.

I am not an expert, but this Chassis ID was critical to get my IFD-100 working. I don’t know if the 540 and 440 need to have different numbers or if it matters which one is number 1 or number 2. You do need to have at least one number 1, even if you want to connect the IFD-100 to box number 2.

Thank You Henry,

unfortunately the IPad is not connected, the network of the IFD 550 isn`t visible on the pad at all. To search it with the Name wasn`t successful. Same problems with other Pad or Iphone.
But: The IFD shows, that WiFI Symbol in the right top corner of the screen.

The WiFi icon on the IFD needs to be green.  You really only need to have WiFi on for one of the boxes.  You can have it on for both if you want, but if you do, be sure that the SSIDs are different.  I'll assume that you're trying to connect to your 550.  If you're trying to connect to the 540, just adjust the instructions below.
  • Note the chassis ID on your 550 by looking at the switches
  • On the iPad settings for IFD100 App
    •  set IFD Chassis ID to the same as your 550
    • set IFD Type to IFD550
  • On the IFD550 in Mx Mode
    • set the mode to LOCAL
    • Note/set the SSID
    • Note/set the PSK (password)
  • On the IFD550 in flight mode
    • Aux-Setup-User Options - set Networking to On
    • Wait up to 30 seconds for the WiFi icon to turn green
  • On the iPad settings for Wi-Fi
    • Choose the network name and enter password noted above
  • On the IFD100
    • Wait up to 30 seconds for the WiFi icon to turn green

Steve,

Do the Chassis ID’s need to be different from each other when you have multiple physical IFD devices?

I guess my question should have been: what are the symptoms if you fail to use different chassis ID's when you install two IFD's?

Well I can't remember exactly, but it's nothing good.  I remember that happened to me in our lab once and stuff was just really screwy.  Took me quite a while to figure out what had happened.  Boxes get swapped around in our lab pretty often and I ended up with two #1 boxes.  Enough stuff works that you're not quite sure what's going on, but I do remember that cross-sync was messed up.

Thanks. My IFD-100 didn’t work when there was no Chassis ID 1in a single IFD installation. There was no error reported or any other clue as to what the issue was.

You'll have to send pictures.  Send them to me directly (slindsley at avidyne dot com).  I need pictures of:
  • Networking page from Maintenance mode on each IFD
  • AUX-Setup page from Flight mode on each IFD (showing network on/off status)
  • DIP switches on the side of each IFD
  • iPad settings page (showing the available networks)
