I have two sources of ADSB traffic in my cockpit:
1) MLB100 + IFD540
2) Portable ADSB receiver + Android tablet

Of the two solutions, I find the portable one far superior to the MLB+IFD in information delivery.

Whereas the IFD displays a cyan diamond with relative-altitude information, giving me the "where" of the target, the portable provides that same information plus an indication of travel direction as well.

Direction of travel is important both for locating the target (and having confidence that the target you found out the window does in fact match the target reported on the screen, and isn't an additional bogey) and for assessing risk (a target 1 nm from me and moving away is not as concerning as a target 1 nm and closing).

Is there a plan to include traffic target direction of travel in a future software release?  Or is there a setting to show this information that I haven't found?

There is no setting that you haven't found.
There is always a next software.  While I don't have any special insight to offer, I have no doubt that the IFD traffic display will improve over time.
