The IFD 540s drive charts on the IFD100 .I do not understand the technical reasons that prevent the IFD440 from driving the same charts on the ifd100?  The wireless datastream from the ifd540 to the ifd 100 must be the same as the one the ifd440 sends to the ifd100, isn't it?  Any ifd440 users who have charts installed with the ifd100 and working?

The bundles options from Jepp include charts with the 540 but don't include charts with the 440.

Some 540 owners don't want to pay for the charts, and have purchased the 440 bundle to save a few bucks.

I don't know what would happen if you bought the 540 chart bundle for the 440.

We have charts on the Avidyne EX5000 (Full US Avidyne bundle IFD440 with CMAX charts from Jepp) , but don't see the option to download chart on the IFD100

Just for my understanding, what do you mean by "drive charts"? Do you mean at a subscription level, enabling downloading of charts to the IFD100 during startup login to Jepp? How do you think the wireless datas stream from the IFD540 to the IFD100 plays any role in having charts on the IFD100?

My understanding is that any bundle (540 or 440) includes charts due to mobileFD being part of the bundle. The 100 just takes one of the mobile instances as mentioned above. With the obvious exception of charts, all the Jepp data can be loaded into either a 540 or a 440 or both, regardless of the device indicated in JSM or whether 1 or 2 IFDs are listed. However, if Jepp charts are ordered via FF rather than fm Jepp directly (e.g. no bundle) they are not available for loading in the 100.

I have the charts, and I can download them from the databases screen, but they don't show up on the map page of the IFD100 app.  what am I doing wrong?  do I need to be connected to the avionics for the charts page to show?

yes. You need to be connected to the avionics or the chart tab isn’t there

Thanks...  that sucks though, I'd like to brief the approach in the lobby.  What is the logic behind this?

I have an iPad panel mounted on the copilot side of my plane, that's 1 of my licenses.  I have the IFD100 on another I carry in my flight bag and use in my lap, that's another license.  so I'm out of licenses for the trainer.

just updated to newest s/w release 10.3.1.2 and can’t get the charts tab on the ifd100 app when connected to the ifd540 in the acft.  Any ideas on what I may be missing?

Make sure your IFD540 also has a GPS position. Without it, the connected IFD100 will not show a charts tab.

I find it interesting that the system (the interface between the IFD and the 100) knows it doesn't have a position and disables charts on the 100, BUT the IFD can't bring up the charts for the current airport where you are shooting an active approach to and defaults to some far away airport.
