I was wondering if there was an upgrade path from the TCAD 9900B to the TAS 600 range? Previously you could upgrade the 9900B to the 9900BX (TAS 620).
And is it possible to upgrade to a "lesser" model, such as the TAS 605 (or 605A)? And what would this upgrade cost? Thanks, Tim. |

Hi Tim,
Thank you for the question and for visiting AvidyneLive.com. Avidyne does offer upgrades from the Ryan 9900B to the Avidyne TAS605, TAS615, or TAS620. The price of the upgrade varies depending on the serial number of the 9900B. Please feel free to call me tomorrow with your serial number and I will be happy to give you a quote for the upgrade. In case you didn't know, the 9900B is a passive traffic system. That means the 9900B does not actively interrogate other aircraft transponders. The 9900B must rely on other aircraft TAS/TCAS or a ground-based secondary surveillance radar to interrogate traffic in your vicinity. In comparison the TAS6XX systems are Active Traffic Systems (TAS). This technology is basically the same as TCASI. The TAS6XX systems interrogate 56 times a second, this provides you with the best traffic awareness and protection. Jared Butson 781-402-7569 |

From what I have read, the only update to the TCAS system will be the traffic function. Does avidyne have any plans to make a FIS-B in system for the current avidyne systems, or will we be stuck with XM radio? And when do you plan to make such a system? regards

Avidyne has not made any announcements regarding FIS-B In capabilities; however Avidyne considers ADS-B an essential part of the next generation airspace and plans to support ADS-B technology in a major way. I think that both our past and future customers will be very happy with our ADS-B road map. As much as I would like to discuss the exciting work that Avidyne is doing behind the scenes, we are not quite ready to make our road map public. |
