I made my first long term with the 540s today while enroute to the Bahamas from RI.   The units are even more incredible the more I get to use them.  I have a couple of questions that I have not been able to answer while looking through the manual.
1.  In the Air/Data Calculator page,  the unit will give the winds aloft direction and speed after entering in the needed info to calculate it.  Is there anywhere in the 540 where it will give you the headwind/tailwind component of the wind?

2. I noticed while flying my flight plan, that my #1 unit always put the next up VOR freq into the active position but my #2 unit put the freq into the standby position.  I imagine this must be a setting issue but I cannot seem to find where the setting is change the default.  Perhaps in a dual installation #1 defaults to active and #2 to standby?

3. I discovered one other use for the TOD chime on my flight.  ATC asked me to report 62 miles from my destination.  At the time, I was about 100 miles away flying GPS direct.  I wanted a reminder so I would not forget to give the position report and thought about creating a waypoint on my route which was 62 miles from the destination but thought it easier to set up a TOD warning.  I put an altitude 1000 feet lower than my present altitude at a distance 62 miles before my destination into the destination on the FPL page.  At a decent rate of 500 feet/min, I knew I would get the chime, 2 min before the fix.  Worked perfectly!!!

#1 I have not found Headwind/Tailwind component, so I believe the answer is NO

#2 Yes, it is called Auto-VLOC Tuning in the user settings and if set to "On" it will tune and identify into the active NAV frequency the VOR.  Page 4-37 of the user's guide.

#3 I believe the ability to add markers like this in the unit has been requested before and I believe is in the feature request database.

Not 60 miles, not 65 miles, but 62 miles!  Never been asked to make a report like that in my short flying career.

I haven't flown a real cross-country flight with the 540 yet, but the calculator in my old jurassic G-brand GNC-300XL would give the headwind component when calculating winds aloft.

Reference #1, we've added the HW component digital display to the Air Data  Calculator as part of Release 10.1 due out in the spring.

Yup, that was requested, in the post requesting a whole variety of cool direct-add FPL page user defined points.

I'll have to play with the Auto-VLoc tuning again on my next flight.  I thought that was too obvious but both of my 540s were set to ON so I thought there had to be another explanation.
