Is there any type of screen protector that Avidyne suggests for the touch screen 540. I'm wondering if anything like the iPad type protectors are recommended or available??

No, we don't endorse any screen protectors.  In fact, some will actually damage the touch screen glass.

It'll be interesting to see if any users come up with something neat but for now, we definitely don't recommend anything.

In the past, on other Avidyne products, folks have used stuff then sent it in for service and since the glass was so damaged because of it, the warranty was void.

What do  you recommend to CLEAN the screen surface? Just a bit of soap and water;  glasses/lens cleaner (which is soap/water and a bit of alcohol), or what?

Take a look at page 6-39 of the pilot guide.

We recommend a soft lint-free cloth such as 3M Ultra-Brite Cloth #2011 or similar.   For a cleaning solution, try some de-ionized water or reagent-grade acetone or isopropyl alcohol.

Do NOT use methanol or nasty stuff like that.
