TSO-c146, under which the IFD GPS is certified, is specifically for L1.  If a TSO for the L2C and/or L5 band is established, certification of new hardware would be involved.  And yes, you would need a different antenna.

I was reading about the new signals being produced by the newer generation of GPS satellites - L2C and L5.  Long story short- they are supposed to provide a better experience for the users.   Wondering if anyone knows when we could expect to see these being used in the IFD series?  Would it take a model update, or just a software change?  New antenna needed possibly?
