Remote DME

   I could not find this specific issue covered so perhaps you guys can assist. I have a Bendix King DME with a remote link to the IFD. When I enter the DME frequency I was expecting the DME to immediately display the frequency selected but this does not always seem to happen. Yesterday I was out of range of a DME (but tuned to it) and the DME never showed the freqency which made me think perhaps the IFD was waiting for an ID before sending to the DME receiver.
Note the DME's were DME and not colocated VOR/DME stations or is this part of the issue?

The bigger question here is I have already used up the MON2 on the audio panel for the ADF and don't really want to use MON1 for the DME if I can rely on the IFD to ID the station.

Help appreciated.
