Hello,

I lost power during the Jeppesen Database Update.

The device still works, but refuses to accept a new update.

The manual says:

Note:
Do Not Power Off the IFD During Data Update
Cycling power to the IFD during a database update
may result in a corruption of the memory device that
stores the databases. If this happens, a service
action may be required to restore the data integrity
Use of a ground power unit is recommended.

Avidyne Support refers to the avionics specialist I trust.

But because of something like that, I still refuse to fly across Germany to the only avionist I trust in Straubing.

Has anyone else had this before and solved it?

Yes - I had something similar after an IFD540 software upgrade. The box refused to load a new Jep database.

Unfortunately, the entire internal memory of the IFD needs to be rewritten from scratch. My avionics shop set up the unit on their bench, downloaded a big file from Avidyne, and uploaded the whole thing to the IFD. It took two or three hours but most of that was uploading time with no intervention required from the avionics tech.

Bottom line - It's not a disaster but it's a pain and not something you can fix yourself. The IFD has to get to a shop somehow. You could always pull it out yourself and ship it. Or fly with whatever database is in it and back yourself up with charts. That's legal in the States; don't know about Germany.

Sorry

Mike

PS...  I just noticed that you have two IFD540s. Did both of them get scrambled?

Thank You.
So I don't have a chance to fix that myself.

No, Avidyne No.1 was ready with the update , so I turned the battery switch off, a second too fast before realizing my mistake.

sh*t happens.
