On Avidyne website, Go To: "PRODUCTS" > "GENERAL AVIATION" > "FMS/GPS/NAV/COM" >"IFD540" (or "IFD 550", either one). Scroll down to "COMPATIBILITY" and read under heading "ELECTRONIC APPROACH CHARTS & AIRPORT DIAGRAMS".

CMax was the name originally given to electronic Jeppesen charts on Entegra systems. The name is still formally used for IFD-series, but hardly ever referenced that way in conversation.
Charts are definitely available on all 500 series IFDs. They are not available on 400 series IFDs, though, simply due to the screen size. I'm interested in what promotional literature said it's not available on the 550. Do you have a link or a picture of some pamphlet?

In the Avidyne promotional literature, CMax is mentioned as available on the IFD540, but NOT available on the IFD550. Two questions:
1) exactly what is CMax? and 2) why is it available only in the less expensive navigator?
