Okay, so I just purchased the Gary Reeves IFD mastery course.....Can I seriously buy a 550 and remove my current 540 myself and do a self swap and make the apropriate logbook entry without an avionics shop? He didn't specifically used that example, he specifically used the example of Garmin 530 swap out to IFD 540.

I swapped my 540 for a 550 back in 2017 and it was very easy, step by step instructions.

I removed my 540 and installed a 550, last year. It's literally a physical remove, physical insert and manual/auto configure job. No rewiring or modifications. Be sure to take pictures or record settings, or export your configuration to a USB drive before removing your 540. This will dramatically simplify the upgrade task.

Careful guys. 540 to 550 is not covered in the self exchange. The 550 has an ARS that needs to be calibrated and that's a maintenance action that must be appropriately signed off.
