Does anyone know if the IFD440 NAV radio is capable of functioning as the RMT (remote) input of the KN-62A DME? The purpose is to slave the DME to  either of two NAV radios ( 1 from ifd 440, 2 from other NAV radio) through a simple switch. This is the config that existed in the aircraft with two legacy NAV radios and the DME prior to removing one NAV radio and installing the IFD. A visit to my installer indicated that he did not choose to head down the switched path, despite pre-installation discussions on the topic. thx.

I have a KN-62A connected to a IFD540 (NAV 1) and KX-155 (NAV 2) using a remote switch just as you describe you wanted.

Thank you, Dmtidler. Excellent to know someone has done this with the KN-62A.

I just got my plane back with the IFD440 and no switch to remote the second (original) NAV to the DME. The installer said it would require a special relay switch since the channeling from the IFD440 NAV is different (# wiresw/ channeling prorocol) from the original NAV. Any idea if a special relay /switch is required to slave the KN-62A DME between the IFD440 NAV and the original NAV ?

I don't know about the special relay switch. My avionics installer just wired my KN-62A with a remote switch to work with both the IFD540 and KX-155 just as it had been working with two KX-170Bs before the avionics upgrade.

FWIW - there is a wiring diagram in the IFD installation manual that shows the KN 62A connected to two IFD 44Xs or IFD 54Xs with a remote switch; however, I don't know what the wiring diagram looks like from my KX-155 to the KN 62A and the remote switch.
