We have a KAP 140 but we also have an Icarus SAM. Does that change the answers?

For those of you out there flying with a KAP 140 autopilot and an IFD540 or IFD440, what are your autopilot use techniques when flying a RNAV GPS approach? Some folks are asking and I've never used one so don't want to pass along bogus info.
