I consistently have difficulty updating the Jepp data to the IFD100 software. Today I updated the IFD100 software to the 10.2.3.1 and then attempted to update the Jepp data. Difficulty logging in - took several attempts. Now the download of any data chosen times out. Or the app says 'unexpected amount of data'.
This problem seems to be in the grey zone between Avidyne and Jepp. I call Avidyne and they say to call Jepp. I call Jepp and they say to call Avidyne. After many attempts and several restarts, the data is now current. I 'start'ed the app and got a big black screen! Frustrating. Buggy? Closed and restarted IFD100, now it works. Let's see what happens in the cockpit. By the way - had this issue many times on my iPad Mini 2. Now using an iPad Pro 10.5 current production and problems still happen. Any suggestions?

Hard to say what happened. If it happens again, go to the activity log that's on the Jeppesen screen in the IFD100. You get there by touching the "gear" icon in the upper right corner when you see the list of databases for download. You can peruse that log looking for clues. You can cut/paste it, so if you want to send it to us, we'd be glad to take a look.

I have this issue every time I try to update nav data or any other data. Takes many tries before it is successful. Almost always the error is “unexpected amount of data”. Super annoying.

Next time that happens, please copy the activity log and send it to me.

First time getting “unexpected amount of data” error when trying to upload charts. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled IFD100 and trainer, deleted stuff on my iPad to free up memory, called Jepp and discovered my subscription was out of date (thanks Jepp, no notice), updated that, installed the new 10.3 app. Still, no joy.

Can you check the Jeppesen activity log for any further detail around the error?

I am having the same issue but receive the unknown error message. i posted back in December about the same issue. it works for a while then doesn't. some months it will update after many attempts but for the july 14 cycle it will not. I have tried 30 plus times, deleted the app, rebooted, redownloaded, it sees the 1 available slot, starts the download process then says unknown error.

That is a very common error report for me, “unexpected amount of data”, for the trainer and the IFD100. But I have been able to complete the download by just restarting it, not sure I ever needed to do that more than once. I also don't use the trainer (or IFD100) that often, so have not reported it. There is something to this, for sure, on some setups. * Orest

I just recently switched internet providers at my home (DSL to a mobile 5G) a few weeks ago; the only negative consequence to that ISP change that I have tested for and identified so far is that I now get an "unknown error" message that does not go away when trying to log onto Jeppesen Services for updates to the IFD100s. Since my home ISP change, I have not had a successful log Jeppesen Services log on through my home network with either iPad I use with the IFD100. To me, this is only a minor nuisance as I still have no issues getting to Jeppesen Services and updating the IFD100s when the iPads are WiFi tethered to my mobile phone. The interesting thing is that my mobile phone service provider and home ISP are now the same provider.

I know this is a terrible answer, but I just tried it on my iPad and it worked just fine... My iPad is at iOS 15.3.1. What is your iOS? This is obviously a busy week coming up, so it might be a little while before it can be investigated much further.

My iPad is iOS 15:5 (19F77). I kept trying and suddenly was able to download the July 14 updates. I have been trying on Wi-Fi and my iPad’s cell plan and get the failure with both. However, my home Wi-Fi is a T-Mobile home internet plan, which is an unlimited cellular hotspot. Next month I will go to a non cellular wifi location and see if it downloads successfully the first time.
Thanks

I upgraded to 10.3 since i couldn't get updates with 10.2. the first time using 10.3 it downloaded fine. When the august download was available, it did the same as before when using 10.2, unknown error. I tried a few times and gave up. When the september update came out, I tried a couple of times with the unknown error and then a couple of days later, it updated on the first attempt. Makes no difference if I use cellular or high speed wifi, same error message. I will be upgrading my IFD 540 in a couple of weeks and would really like to have this resolved so I can use flight plan transfer.
Thanks. Latest generation Ipad air running the latest IOS.
