Hi Everyone!

I have finally had some chance to test out an auto-pilot coupled ILS approach with my new Avidyne 440 in my Mooney M20J. The localiser is working beautifully but GS is definitely off and the KFC200 is behaving rather erratically.

So here is what happened:

  • ILS approach loaded and activated on Avidyne. ILS tuned and verified.
  • "Hdg" + "Alt" + "Appr" + "Arm" mode on KFC200.
  • Vectored and captured the localiser. KFC200 switched to "Approach - Coupled" mode. Avidyne changed from GSP to VLOC automatically and KFC200 kept it pretty much bang on the line.
  • The GS was then captured. The "Alt" mode disappeared and "GS" light came on KFC200.
  • The GS dots were 1 and half scale UP immediately after capturing on KI525. So I was high on the approach.
  • The KFC200 then started the descent but the GS dots kept rising instead of being centered.
  • The dots disappeared. The plane "dived" at 1000ft/second. Guess it was an attempt to stay on GS? At 2.2NM out I was at least 350ft above the GS. The GS dots were about 2 scale UP. I then disengaged AP and hand flew down. The PAPI was showing high.

This happened twice now.

I did hand fly the GS once and the GS dots are fairly accurate - a nice 3-degree profile all the way down if I keep the GS dots centred.

I can go out and fly the ILS again. Wonder if there is anything that I can do to help diagnosing the problem?

Cheers

Tommy
ps. And as far as I know the ILS was fully operational.

If everything worked before the installation, check with the installer to make sure they used the correct settings for the ARINC 429
