Has anyone tried this device up for installing Nav data, charts, etc into the IFDs?  It appears to eliminate the need for a home computer and makes it possible to download the data from a Jepp mobile app to your Iphone or IPad via WiFi right anyway and then send them to your USB stick via the Wombat.  It seems to have good reviews.

The wombat is a good solution for G* type devices that need a semi-permanently installed data card to function. Eliminates the need to buy a second $proprietary card, or lug the single data card around. But you do need some kind of internet at your hangar.

For the IFD, I keep its USB key in my flight bag. When JDM shows an update, I just slide the key into my laptop, and pull the data down at ultrafast speeds. When the IFD shows the need for an update, I pull the key out of my flight bag and do the update during startup. I don't see much value for the wombat for an IFD.

That’s my routine also but this does seem to make the process a bit more convenient. I don’t think the slight convenience is worth the $250 device but it would have been nice when I had the issue of a chart install wiping out my Nav data each time and having to go back home to put Nav data back on the stick then back to the airport to reinstall. :)
