Steve, been out of touch for a while. Wanted to check to see if the GI 275 has been added to the
Avidyne IM. Isure hope so. You guys had the G5 squared away pretty quick. Why the seemingly lackadaisical response re the GI275. Thank You David

What about the G3X which has been around a lot longer than the GI275.

Hi Steve, this is great news! Actually, I wish Avidyne would have an equivalent to GI275... but.. so, I'm going with a GI275 and would like to know an ETA for the next IM version release please? Many thanks!

The next version of the IM will be coincident with the release of 10.3 ;)

We're having to send our 540 back for repair (probably replacement) of one of the connectors. It'd be awfully nice if it came back updated to 10.3. Just wishful thinking and looking for lemonade.

Aea expo is next week, if I was a betting man I’d bet that’s when we will hear something about 10.3

As soon as either Avidyne or Garmin provides STC approval of the IFD 540 / GI-275 combination I’m going to schedule an installation with an avionics shop using dual GI-275’s to replace my air driven Century artificial horizon and electric King HSI.
I’ll also get rid of the air pump, regulator, filters, gauge and all associated plumbing. I’m guessing I’ll reduce empty weight by 25-30 lbs. as well. I plan on the GI-275 + Autopilot Horizon as well as the GI-275 Stand-by HSI (full reversion should the primary fail). I believe this means I’ll be getting dual ADAHRS + AP models. Whatever. I’m anxiously awaiting word from one of the manufacturers that this is approved…..

I have a Century IIIB with radio (Omni) coupler. Garmin says you need two GI275 +AP to drive that configuration. Garmin will never approve connecting the GI275 to an Avidyne. It will be up to Avidyne to include it in their installation manual.

Just got my IFD 540 back from Avidyne and no 10.3! Tech said soon but still in certification 2/2 changes made to software. No time line given (naturally). I did get an upgrade to 10.2.6 for only $750 though.

Garmin just certified the GFC 500 autopilot for the PA-30. It requires installation of a GI 275 to drive the autopilot and NOT a G5. Looks like Garmin is starting to move away from the G5 as the primary for the GFC 500.

Yesterday I viewed Avidyne’s webinar for v. 10.3.
It includes many enhancements, most importantly (for me) are the approval for use with the Garmin GI-275 and an aural alert when passing a fix (especially on approach). They said it was “done” and the testing was “done” and it was in the FAA’s hands. They expect it to be approved in “weeks not months”. At least that is my memory of what was said.

Now that 10.3 is released and the STC updated to include approval for the GI 275 and the IFD 540 to work together, has anyone installed one (using the updated IM) successfully?

I had installed the GI 275 prior to 10.3 and had to use a glare shield antenna but it’s works great with the IFDs

Avidyne,
Do the STC and Installation Manual authorizing the IFD 540 to function with the Century III autopilot *require* the latest software update? Regards, Jim
